Gregory Ioannidis
Gregory read Law in the UK and he graduated with a first degree in Law, a Masters in International Sports Law and a Doctorate in International Sports Law. He is an independent legal practitioner, Course Leader of the LLM International Sports Law in Practice at Sheffield Hallam University and an Academic Associate with Kings Chambers in Manchester, United Kingdom.
Gregory has 24 years of teaching experience in higher education and he is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. He has created, over the years, innovative under-graduate and post-graduate courses on Sports Law and Legal Skills, with emphasis on holistic/clinical legal education.
Gregory has an expertise in Sports Law and 22 years of experience in legal representation and advice before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), in Lausanne, Switzerland and FIFA’s Dispute Resolution Chamber. He has represented over 100 athletes on allegations of anti-doping rule violations and has also acted for many football clubs and players from around the world. He deals with a number of different applications, ranging from doping in sport to players’ contracts and transfers, football law, European competition law, human rights and other regulatory matters.
Over the years, Gregory has advised and represented a number of high profile sports personalities. One of his most notable cases was the Greek Sprinters case, where he acted as Counsel for Mr Kenteris and Ms Thanou before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) and successfully negotiated a multi-million pound out-of-court settlement with the IAAF. In recent years, he has advised the South-African track & field Federation on the Caster Semenya matter, Celtic FC on the FC Sion matter, he acted for the Chinese Taipei gold medalist Mu-yen Chu against the International Olympic Committee and for the heavyweight boxing champion Dillian Whyte.
Gregory publishes frequently and participates on TV and Radio interviews globally on several sports law issues and he is a regular contributor to Sky News and BBC News. In November 2009, he was voted in the “Top 20 of the World’s Most Influential Sports Lawyers” by Sports Business International.
Gregory is currently serving as a member of the Mentoring Team of the Pro-Bono Legal Service of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and he is responsible for anti-doping matters in connection with the Olympic Games.
Rob Wilson
Rob is the Head of Department for Finance, Accounting and Business Systems at Sheffield Hallam University and an expert in sport finance in general, and football finance in particular.
With 20 years' experience in Higher Education in a variety of roles, ranging from Quality Enhancement to External Relations, Rob has significant teaching and research experience in the sport business field. To that end, his main teaching and research interests are in the finance and economics of sport with his PhD focussing on the factors affecting financial performance in professional team sports
He has published five books including two on finance: 'Finance for sport and leisure managers: An introduction' and 'Managing Sport Finance'; as well as numerous chapters on finance and financial management in sport and more than 30 peer reviewed outputs. He serves on the editorial boards of a several international journals and, in addition to his academic commitments, Rob has a prolific media profile and is a regular commentator in the national and international media (including BBC, Al Jazeera, Bloomberg and ESPN) providing expert analysis for public consumption on all sport finance-related news stories.
Lambros Lazuras
Lambros is an Associate Professor of Psychology at Sheffield Hallam University, United Kingdom, with expertise in the social and psychological drivers of doping behaviour in elite sports, the development and evaluation of evidence-based clean sport education interventions and policies, and the promotion of whistleblowing against doping and other misconduct in sport.
Lambros is the author of the book "Psychology of Doping in Sport" published in 2015 by Routledge, and has also published over 30 research scientific articles and book chapters about doping behaviour in textbooks and high impact factor academic journals.
His research on doping behaviour has been funded by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), the International Olympic Committee (IOC), and the European Commission. Lambros also serves as an Expert Evaluator in the field of Sport to the European Commission, and as a consultant about clean sport education and whistle blowing to National Anti-Doping Organisations.
Hayley Carr
Hayley is currently a trainee and a research associate with our team and she regularly assists and shadows Counsel at sports law disciplinary hearings. She graduated from the Helena Kennedy Centre at Sheffield Hallam University in 2018 at the top of her class with a first class honours law degree. Hayley specialised in international sports law at Masters level, having successfully achieved the highest mark of the sports law cohort at undergraduate level. During her studies she had access to some of the most prevalent and controversial areas within sports law and exposure to internationally renowned specialists in the field. The Masters has provided the requisite knowledge and skills to effectively and comprehensively represent clients at the Court of Arbitration for Sport in the resolution of complex sporting disputes. Hayley’s post-graduate studies have been insightful in terms of appreciating the jurisdictional and procedural issues that arise at international level. To date, Hayley has achieved a distinction on the LLM International Sports Law in Practice, including her elective (anti-doping litigation) module.
Hayley has also executed an international work placement in Chicago, Illinois wherein she assisted Attorney Russell Ainsworth on both exoneration projects and civil law suits.
Dikaia Chatziefstathiou
Dikaia is an expert in Olympic Studies and her work on Olympism has been widely published and cited. In the most recent work, she applies the theory and methodology adopted in her Olympic research into the world of football unpacking issues of power in the dressing rooms.
She is a Reader in Olympic Studies & the Social Analysis of Sport at the School of Human and Life Sciences in Canterbury Christ Church University, UK. She is also an International Research Expert of the Centre for Olympic Studies & Research (COS&R) at Loughborough University, UK; and a Senior Associate of the Hibou Alliance of sports professionals worldwide. Dikaia was the holder of the prestigious Marie Curie Intra-European Fellowship at the Regional Development Institute of the Panteion University in Athens, Greece (2013-2015) to examine "An Evaluation of the Legacies of the Sporting Mega Events on Social Capital in Greece". She is the winner of the inaugural Coubertin Prize 2008 awarded by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the International Pierre de Coubertin Committee (IPCC) for her qualitative research on Pierre de Coubertin’s writings and speeches. Following her award, she became a Member of the Executive Board of the International Pierre de Coubertin Committee (based in Lausanne, Switzerland) until 2014 and was recently re-elected until 2018. She was the Guest Editor for the Special Olympic Issue of the European Sport Management Quarterly in 2012 (co-edited with Professor Ian Henry).
She is the author of the book "Discourses of Olympism: From the Sorbonne 1894 to London 2012" published by Palgrave (2012; co-authored with Professor Ian Henry) and has edited several books. She has also written the storytelling book "Imagine my Stories for Peace" containing five stories for inspiring young people to embody the Olympic values in their lives (2016; published by the International Olympic Truce Centre). Kostas Alexandris
Kostas has more than 20 years of experience in academia and professional executive employee training levels in several countries around the world, including USA, UK, Greece, Romania and Ukraine. He has also an extensive research experience in academic and applied consultancy projects in the areas of sport sponsorship (planning and evaluation), event management (tourism, economic and social impact evaluation), service quality and customer satisfaction (testing applied models), marketing research (design and analysis), and professional employee training.
Kostas served as a faculty member at the Department of Recreation, Sport and Tourism at the University of Illinois, USA. He is currently a Professor at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece, an Adjunct Faculty Member at Sheffield Hallam University, UK and a faculty member at the Open University, Greece. He has published more than 70 research papers in international journals in the areas of sport, leisure and tourism management and marketing. His published work has received more than 6000 internationals citations so far. He is Associate Editor of the Journal of Leisure Research and Managing Sport and Leisure, and sits at the Editorial Boards of Sport Management Review, Sport Marketing Quarterly, Managing Service Quality, and International Journal of Sport Management and Global Sport Management. He is also the co-author of the books Sport Consumer Behavior: Marketing Strategies (Funk, Alexandris and McDonald, 2016 by Routledge) and Performance Measurement and Leisure Management (by Routledge).
